Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship is the responsible use of technology

Students need the tools to be able to interact responsibly and safely online. Digital Citizenship teaches students not only how to stay safe on the internet, but how to express their opinions, communicate with others, recognize factual information and maintain a healthy media balance. To empower students to be effective users of technology and information, the implementation of a Digital Citizenship curriculum must be a priority.

MNPS Librarians are taking the lead on implementing the Digital Citizenship curriculum from Common Sense Media. All students K-12 will receive their first lesson within the first 9 weeks of school with two additional lessons being taught throughout the course of the year. For more information, visit the MNPS Library Services Digital Citizenship page

Those lessons will be focused in some of these six focus areas:

  • Media Balance and Well-Being
  • Privacy and Security
  • Cyberbullying, Digital Drama and Hate Speech
  • Digital Footprint and Identify
  • News and Media Literacy
